This is the 3 rd book in a series so there was some back story I was unfamiliar with. Having said that this was a good read. The usual protagonists were there. Good guys versus the bad guys. It is an exploration of the needs of and duty to the state and the needs of humans for love, desire and revenge. Also the fact that we all face a common enemy. Be that extreme Islam or something closer to home. This is a book that keeps you reading and changing your mind. Showing that there is no such thing as black and white, only various shades of grey. A good read by an author new to me. I will look out the earlier books. A satisfying read. Thanks to lovereading.co.uk for the ARC |

Old Friends and New Enemies by Owen Mullen
The second in the Charlie Cameron series. All I can say was wow what a great read. Charlie identifies a body and opens a past that brings nothing but trouble. Most of the characters from the first book are there. And some new characters. The story and the writing are excellent. The descriptions of central Scotland are a character in their own right. I am glad I have read both books in this series and look forward to number three. If you haven’t read any of this series, grab your copies and get reading.I thank Owen and publishers for the the chance to read and review. Read this book you will not be disappointed! |
Get Even by Matina Cole
This is the second book I have read by Martina. Initially I was put off by the East London jargon, but she writes what she knows. Having seen and enjoyed a few TV adaptations of her works, I decided to give her books a try. I am glad I did. A fast, violent read, but not without its moments of tenderness and humour. I would recommend her to others, but she is not for the faint hearted. A good read and four stars from me. |
Bloody Women by Helen Fitzgerald
Most of the women in this book have some degree of mental illness. If this hereditary or introduced by outside influences, such as the male of the species. I will leave you to read and come to your own conclusions. A dark, twisted and comic tale that is worth the reading. |
