The Greenmen - cover.jpg
Aereon has found the Creators.
He’s crossed seas and mountain ranges to reach them, tangled with dwarves and ogres along the way, escaped the clutches of an icicle wielding irate yeti to rescue them and now they tell him that they weren’t in any great need of help.
A revolution has sparked in the realm of Hudikvar, because of something things Aereon might have said to a troop of homeless youths. Now, King Victarian is after Aereon and anyone associated with him.
Local woodsman, Lars, has agreed to help them flee and be their guide through Oak’s Wood, but even he cannot guess what lies in wait for them within. Not now the Lord of the Primes is about to wake.

‘He’s got a touch of destiny about him, that one,’ said the Dealer.
‘Aye. He’s got a date with her, I’d say,’ said the Trickster.
‘And she’s ordered the lobster,’ said the Teller.

My Thoughts and Review:

Now on to book 2. Further adventures of Aereon, everyone’s whipping boy.  He has left Krank to find out what has happened to the Creators. He has numerous adventures along the way. He has you cheering for him and moments later saying why the f**k did you do or say that!

He seems to know what he is doing even though he is unsure at times.  He encounters Dwarves, Ogres, Yeti and Lars, a local woodsman who agrees to guidethem through Oak’s Wood. But what awaits them no one knows. Throw in a scheming royal family, and a gang of Revolting youths who regard Aereon as their leader to overthrow the King! What or who could have given them that idea? Surely not Aereon?

A book full of one liners, innuendo and tongue in the cheek humour; and written with panache gives you a great rollicking read. If you have read Divine Invention you will want to read this one. If not I recommend both!Divine sky rowan edit

A Clean Canvas
Crime always leaves a stain…
Lena Szarka, a Hungarian cleaner, dusts off her detective skills when a masterpiece is stolen from a gallery she cleans with her cousin Sarika. When Sarika goes missing too, accusations start to fly.

Convinced her cousin is innocent, Lena sweeps her way through the secrets of the London art scene. But with the evidence against Sarika mounting and the police on her trail, Lena needs to track down the missing painting if she is to clear her cousin.

Embroiling herself in the sketchy world of thwarted talents, unpaid debts and elegant fraudsters, Lena finds that there’s more to this gallery than meets the eye.

My Thoughts And Review:

Second book in the Lena Szarka series, but can be read as a standalone. There is some back story but not enough to spoil the story.

Lena, a Hungarian cleaner is employed at a gallery, which she cleans with her cousin Sarika. All is well in their world. Or so it seems.

A work of art is stolen from the gallery and her cousin Sarika comes under suspicion as she too disappears. Lena convinced of her cousin’s innocence turns detective and decides to investigate. What follows is a rollicking romp through the London art world.

Lena is the main character in the book; but also character in her own right! Although her exactly high standards of cleanliness would not make close friendship possible for us in real life. She has a brilliant mind and struggles with understanding and correctly using English idioms. “Smells like fish” made me smile.
Lena also has a wonderful brain for business. I enjoyed how she revealed opportunities in the obstacles she tripped over while trying to solve the puzzle of a stolen painting, and the discovery that there is more to the story. With her rudimentary grasp of English and her belief of her cousin’s innocence she investigates directly not following what we could proper procedure.

One thing that did annoy me was Lena’s attraction to Cartwright. To me he was a wimp and quite dim. You felt like slapping him at times!

Dragg, on the other hand, grew on me, as he stepped up over time.

A well written and funny book that I would urge you to read. I will need to look out book one!

Thanks to Book On The Bright Side Publicity & Promo# Deadly Secrets by Gordon Bickerstaff#Blog Tour.

Blurb:
Conspiracy. Serial Killers. Thriller.

The truth will out…

Gavin’s life will be turned upside down. He joins a company to work on a product that will revolutionise the food industry. His initial gut instinct is to walk away until he discovers one of the company directors is the former love of his teenage life.

The financial implications are global and incredible. Powerful individuals and countries are prepared to kill as they compete to seize control of the company. Corruption at high levels, a deadly flaw in the product, and the stakes jump higher and higher.

Against overwhelming odds, Gavin must rescue his former love from the hands of an evil cult as they prepare her for a living nightmare.

My Thoughts and Review:

My first read by Gordon; but I’m sure it wont be my last!

Gavin Shawlens is a research biochemist who agrees to work on a project that will transform the food industry. What starts as a routine assignment sees him involved in a cult and their agenda of illegal organ transplants. This cult, who has tendrils reaching into the higher echelons of the Establishment!

This finds Gavin in some serious spots that could cost him his life. He finds himself mistrusting everyone and not knowing where to turn. A fast paced thriller that will drag the reader along and drag them along  the many hairpin bends the story goes in.

Another thing that appealed to me was the setting of the story; a lot of it set in Glasgow and Scotland. Places I’m familiar with! The writing is of a high quality an is as fast paced as the story. If you like fast paced thrillers; then this could be a book for you.

Thanks to Sarah Hardy# Broadland by David Blake#Blog Tour#NorfolkBroads

51pMp5F+IJL

Book Description:

A girl’s body found mutilated by a boat’s propeller, another dumped at the bottom of a slipway, and a disused Norfolk mill, hiding the secret to both.

A COLD DENSE shadow fell over Jane Richardson as she hurried along the concrete towpath. To her left, moonlight danced over the River Bure’s untroubled surface as it slipped silently past, heading back the way she’d come. A low-hanging branch scratched at her face as she ducked underneath. From somewhere far behind her came the shriek of laughter, slicing through the air, only to fall silent a moment later to leave nothing but the sound of her high heels, click-clacking out a stark but steady beat.

When a girl’s body is found strangled, raped, and horrifically mutilated by a boat’s propeller, deep in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, newly arrived Detective Inspector John Tanner is asked to assist with the investigation.

At first, all the evidence points to a man who had a multi-million pound reason to kill her. But when an alibi is produced from an unexpected source, and another body appears at the base of a slipway, Tanner finds himself turning to local girl, Detective Constable Jenny Evans for help.

As a more intimate relationship begins between them, they find themselves facing a race against time to identify a lethal adversary, one with a lust for blood and a mind set on revenge.

Set within the mysterious beauty of the Norfolk Broads, this fast-paced British detective series is a murder mystery that will have you guessing until the very end, when the last shocking twist is finally revealed.

Broadland is a totally addictive gripping crime thriller, the first in a chilling series of serial killer books, ones which will rapidly convert followers of Faith Martin, Joy Ellis, Damien Boyd and Helen H. Durrant into David Blake devotees.

My Thoughts and Review:

My first read by this author. Not only a new author for me but a new setting also, The Norfolk Broads.  The setting and the story had me hooked from the start. It was a real page turner and the characters well drawn and involve you in the their story and what a story it was!

The prologue sets the pace for the rest of the story. She is  stalked and she feels her life is at stake and she is right! She disappears and is reported missing.

The writing is of a high quality but deceptively simple. This makes for a fast paced read! The setting of the Broads and the  interaction between the characters makes for a superb read.

Another feature I particularly liked was the dynamic between DI Tanner and DC Evans. At first she is his only ally as he is a stranger to the district. But later he realises she has a risqué sense of humour. This at first attracts and repels him. But there is a certain attraction between them.

A really good read that I recommend and urge you to read.David Blake.jpg
